Thank you for supporting better healthcare in your community by attending Longwoodstock! Longwood Brewery is generously donating a portion of proceeds from this event to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation. The donation will go towards the Hospital Foundation’s $1.5 million campaign to build a new surgical suite for the Endoscopy Department at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. This additional surgical suite is urgently needed as 2,500 patients are waiting up to a year for a colonoscopy at NRGH. Plus, another 1,000 patients are waiting for other endoscopic procedures. Used to diagnose serious illnesses such as colon cancer, colonoscopies can be life saving. When caught early, pre-cancerous tissue can be surgically removed during the procedure. As the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in Canada, many of us know a loved one, friend or colleague who have had colon cancer or are at risk. When the surgical suite is operational next Spring, capacity will increase up to 35%, enabling our loved ones to get the diagnosis and potential treatment they need sooner and close to home.

The Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation was founded on December 30, 1977 as a means for grateful patients and loved ones to support healthcare in their community. Through the generosity of donors, the Hospital Foundation purchases vital equipment and funds major projects that help expand healthcare services, reduce wait times and provide better healthcare for Nanaimo and area residents. In addition, the Hospital Foundation funds patient comfort items as well as staff education to ensure our healthcare professionals have the latest tools and knowledge they need to deliver excellent care.
